Services ReadyKids offers for early intervention

Early childhood is a critical period for developing fine motor skills—the small, coordinated movements children need for writing, self-care, and play. ReadyKids supports children in their early development through targeted fine motor intervention, helping build the hand strength, dexterity, and coordination that form the foundation for learning. At ReadyKids, our occupational therapists use play-based activities tailored to each child's developmental stage. Examples include threading beads and manipulating playdough to strengthen finger muscles, using adaptive scissors and pencil grips to develop writing readiness, and engaging in hand-eye coordination games that build confidence and control. These interventions are particularly valuable during the early intervention window, when children's brains are most responsive to skill development. If you're considering support through NDIS funding (2025-26), ReadyKids can work with families to explore eligibility and how occupational therapy services may be funded. Early intervention in fine motor skills can help children participate more fully in everyday activities, preschool, and social play, setting them up for success as they progress through school.

About early intervention

Early childhood is a time of rapid development across play, movement, communication, self-care, and social skills. When concerns about a child's early development arise, paediatric occupational therapy is one of the allied health supports often involved.

Common questions

How do I know if my child needs fine motor support?

Signs include difficulty holding pencils or utensils, trouble with buttons or zips, reluctance to draw or write, or clumsiness with small objects. Every child develops at their own pace. ReadyKids can assess your child's skills and discuss whether intervention might help them participate more confidently in daily activities and play.

Can occupational therapy help if my child has autism or ADHD?

Occupational therapists cannot diagnose autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences, but they can support children with these conditions by addressing fine motor and functional skills. ReadyKids works alongside your child's other healthcare providers to help them develop skills for everyday activities, regardless of diagnosis.

Does ReadyKids accept NDIS funding?

ReadyKids' NDIS registration status is not yet confirmed. We recommend contacting the clinic directly to discuss current funding options and how they can support your family's needs. They can advise on payment arrangements and any available funding pathways for 2025-26.
