ADHD Support at Access to Therapy — Across QLD
Access to Therapy in Across QLD lists services that overlap with paediatric occupational therapy for adhd.
Services Access to Therapy offers for adhd
Children with ADHD often experience difficulties with sensory processing, which can affect their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and participate in daily activities. Access to Therapy supports these challenges through tailored sensory processing interventions designed to help children better understand and respond to sensory information. Our occupational therapists work with children to develop strategies that improve attention and self-regulation. For example, we use sensory activities like controlled swinging or trampolining to help children organise their sensory input and improve body awareness, which can enhance concentration during learning tasks. We also incorporate weighted equipment such as weighted vests or lap pads to provide calming input, and fine-motor activities using textured materials to build focus during table-based work. Access to Therapy recognises that every child's sensory needs are unique, so interventions are individualised to each child's profile. While occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD, we can identify sensory processing patterns that may be contributing to attention difficulties and address these through evidence-based practice. Families may be eligible for NDIS funding to support these services under the 2025-26 funding arrangements, though registration status should be confirmed directly with the clinic.

About adhd
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a developmental difference that affects attention, activity level, and impulse control. In Australia, ADHD is diagnosed by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or psychologist, often after a family or school notices ongoing differences in attention, behaviour, or self-regulation across multiple settings.

Common questions
Can an occupational therapist diagnose ADHD?
No, occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD—this requires assessment by a medical professional or psychologist. However, OTs can identify sensory processing difficulties and attention-related challenges that may co-occur with ADHD, and provide targeted support to help your child manage these areas in daily life.
How does sensory processing work relate to my child's attention difficulties?
Children who struggle to process sensory information may find it harder to filter distractions and focus on tasks. Access to Therapy uses sensory activities to help children regulate their nervous system, which can improve their ability to concentrate, sit still, and engage in learning. This creates a foundation for better attention.
Will NDIS funding cover therapy at Access to Therapy?
NDIS funding may be available to support occupational therapy services, depending on your child's plan and goals. We recommend contacting Access to Therapy directly to discuss your child's needs and confirm current registration status and funding arrangements for 2025-26.
