Autism Support at KidSkills Occupational Therapy — Across NSW

Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience differences in sensory processing and fine motor development, which can affect their daily activities, learning, and independence. KidSkills Occupational Therapy in Across supports children by addressing these areas through tailored interventions. Our sensory processing work helps children who may be over-sensitive or under-sensitive to sounds, textures, movement, and touch. This might include activities like using a sensory swing to help with balance and body awareness, working with different textured materials during play-based activities, or using weighted equipment to provide calming input. For fine motor skills, we support children in developing hand strength and coordination needed for writing, eating, dressing, and play—through activities such as threading beads, scissor practice, and pencil grip development. KidSkills Occupational Therapy recognises that each child is unique, and we work collaboratively with families to identify meaningful goals. Many families access our services through NDIS funding (2025-26 pricing arrangements), though we recommend confirming individual funding eligibility. Our occupational therapists do not diagnose autism; however, we work effectively with children who have received an autism diagnosis to improve their functional skills and participation in everyday routines.
