Services Neurospark offers for early intervention

Early childhood is a critical window for developing sensory processing skills, which form the foundation for learning, play, and everyday activities. At Neurospark, our occupational therapists work with children to help them process sensory information more effectively—whether they're over-responsive to sounds and textures, or under-responsive and seeking intense input. Through tailored sensory activities, we help children develop better awareness and regulation. For example, a child might use a sensory swing to improve body awareness and vestibular processing, or engage in fine-motor activities like threading beads and playdough manipulation to strengthen hand coordination. Weighted equipment and tactile exploration activities help children who need calming input. Neurospark recognises that sensory processing challenges can significantly impact a child's participation in everyday routines, social play, and learning readiness. While occupational therapy cannot diagnose conditions like autism or sensory processing disorder, we can identify sensory patterns and support development through evidence-based intervention. Families may be eligible for NDIS funding (2025–26) to access these services, depending on their child's needs and circumstances. Our team works collaboratively with families and other professionals to ensure consistent, meaningful progress.

About early intervention

Early childhood is a time of rapid development across play, movement, communication, self-care, and social skills. When concerns about a child's early development arise, paediatric occupational therapy is one of the allied health supports often involved.

Common questions

How do I know if my child has a sensory processing difficulty?

Children with sensory processing challenges may avoid certain textures or sounds, seem clumsy, struggle with transitions, or seek intense input like spinning or jumping. An occupational therapist at Neurospark can observe your child's responses and discuss your concerns, though we cannot diagnose conditions like autism or SPD. A referral from your GP or paediatrician can help guide assessment.

Can occupational therapy help my child before they have a formal diagnosis?

Yes. Neurospark can support children with sensory and developmental concerns regardless of diagnosis. Early intervention focuses on building skills and confidence. Your occupational therapist will work with you to understand your child's strengths and challenges, then design activities to support their development and participation in daily routines.

How is occupational therapy funded, and will NDIS cover it?

Funding depends on your child's eligibility and circumstances. Some families access NDIS support (2025–26 arrangements), whilst others use private health insurance or pay privately. Neurospark can discuss your options and help you understand what funding may be available. We recommend speaking with your GP or early intervention coordinator about pathways.
