Services Physio Inq offers for early intervention

Early childhood is a critical window for development, and sensory processing plays a foundational role in how children learn, move, and interact with their world. At Physio Inq, our occupational therapists recognise that some children process sensory information differently—whether they're seeking more input, avoiding certain sensations, or struggling to filter background noise—and this can affect their confidence, coordination, and social engagement. Through tailored sensory activities, we help children develop better awareness and regulation. Examples include using sensory swings and weighted equipment to build body awareness and calm an overactive nervous system, or structured fine-motor activities like threading, playdough work, and scissor practice to strengthen the skills needed for writing and self-care. Physio Inq also incorporates movement-based play and environmental modifications to support each child's unique sensory profile. While occupational therapists cannot diagnose conditions like autism or sensory processing disorder, we work collaboratively with families and other professionals to support development. Many families access these services through NDIS funding (2025–26 pricing structures apply where eligible), making specialist support more accessible during these formative years.

About early intervention

Early childhood is a time of rapid development across play, movement, communication, self-care, and social skills. When concerns about a child's early development arise, paediatric occupational therapy is one of the allied health supports often involved.

Common questions

How do I know if my child has a sensory processing difficulty?

Signs include covering ears at loud noises, avoiding certain textures in food or clothing, difficulty sitting still, clumsiness, or seeking intense movement and touch. An occupational therapist can observe your child's responses and discuss your concerns, though we cannot diagnose conditions. Your GP or paediatrician can help guide further assessment if needed.

What should I expect in a session at Physio Inq?

Sessions are play-based and tailored to your child's interests and needs. Your occupational therapist might use swings, balls, climbing equipment, or fine-motor activities. You'll be involved in understanding what works for your child, and we'll share strategies you can use at home to support their development between sessions.

Can my child's NDIS plan cover occupational therapy at Physio Inq?

Many children access occupational therapy through NDIS funding. We recommend checking your child's plan and contacting us to discuss eligibility and how we can support your goals. Private sessions are also available. Funding arrangements and pricing for 2025–26 vary, so we're happy to discuss options with your family.
