Autism Support at POTS Newcastle — Across NSW

Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience challenges with fine motor skills, which can affect everyday activities like writing, eating, dressing, and self-care. POTS Newcastle offers targeted fine motor support to help children develop the hand strength, coordination, and control they need for these daily tasks. Our occupational therapists work with children using practical, play-based activities tailored to their interests and developmental level. Examples of interventions include threading and bead work to build finger dexterity, scissor skills training through craft activities, and handwriting practice using multi-sensory approaches such as textured surfaces or adaptive pencil grips. We also incorporate activities that address hand-eye coordination, such as construction play and puzzle work. Many families access POTS Newcastle's services through NDIS funding, which can cover occupational therapy support during the 2025-26 financial year. Our team works collaboratively with families and other professionals to set meaningful goals that support your child's participation in school, home, and community activities. It's important to note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose autism; however, we can provide valuable support for the skill development and functional challenges your child may experience.
