Developmental delay Support at Therapy Plus FNQ — Across QLD
Therapy Plus FNQ in Across QLD lists services that overlap with paediatric occupational therapy for developmental delay.
Services Therapy Plus FNQ offers for developmental delay
Therapy Plus FNQ provides early intervention services designed to support children experiencing developmental delay across motor skills, communication, play abilities and daily living tasks. Early intervention is most effective when started as soon as developmental concerns are identified, helping children build foundational skills during critical developmental periods. At Therapy Plus FNQ, occupational therapists work with children through play-based activities tailored to their individual needs. Examples of interventions include fine-motor exercises using threading, puzzles and scissor work to develop hand strength and coordination; sensory activities such as play with different textures and movement experiences to support sensory processing; and structured routines using visual supports to help children understand and participate in daily activities like mealtimes and transitions. Early intervention can be funded through the NDIS (2025-26 pricing arrangements) for eligible children, helping families access ongoing support. Therapy Plus FNQ works collaboratively with families and other professionals to identify each child's strengths and areas for development, creating a coordinated approach to supporting progress.

About developmental delay
Developmental delay describes when a child has not yet reached one or more developmental milestones in the expected timeframe. It is a description, not a single diagnosis.

Common questions
How do I know if my child needs early intervention support?
If you've noticed your child is slower to reach developmental milestones (like sitting, walking, talking or playing with toys), or if they're having difficulty with everyday tasks like feeding or getting dressed, it's worth discussing your concerns with your GP or contacting Therapy Plus FNQ for an initial discussion. Early intervention services can help identify whether support would be beneficial for your child.
Can occupational therapy diagnose autism, ADHD or sensory processing disorder?
Occupational therapists cannot diagnose these conditions—that requires assessment by a paediatrician or psychologist. However, an OT at Therapy Plus FNQ can identify functional difficulties with movement, coordination, sensory responses and daily living skills, and provide targeted support regardless of diagnosis.
How can I access NDIS funding for therapy at Therapy Plus FNQ?
If your child is NDIS-eligible, you'll need an approved plan that includes occupational therapy funding. Contact the NDIA to discuss your child's eligibility. Once you have a plan, you can engage Therapy Plus FNQ as your service provider. The clinic can discuss NDIS arrangements and how funding works for 2025-26.
