Early intervention Support at Victorian Children's Clinic — Across VIC

Early childhood development relies on a child's ability to process and respond to sensory information from their environment. At Victorian Children's Clinic, sensory processing support helps children develop better awareness of their body, improve coordination, and build confidence in everyday activities. Our occupational therapists work with children using tailored sensory experiences—such as movement activities on therapy swings, exploration of different textures and materials, and graded exposure to various environments—to help them organise their responses to sensory input. These interventions support foundational skills like balance, body awareness, and the ability to concentrate during play and learning. Victorian Children's Clinic recognises that sensory processing difficulties can affect how children engage with their peers, participate in routines, and develop independence. While occupational therapy cannot diagnose conditions like autism or sensory processing disorder, our therapists can identify sensory patterns and recommend strategies to support development. Families may be eligible for NDIS funding under the 2025-26 scheme to access these services, depending on their child's circumstances and plan eligibility. We work collaboratively with families to create meaningful, play-based activities that fit naturally into daily routines.
