Autism Support at Flourish OT — Across QLD

Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience differences in how they process sensory information, which can affect their daily functioning, learning, and social participation. Flourish OT supports these children through targeted sensory processing interventions designed to help them better manage and respond to sensory input from their environment. At Flourish OT, occupational therapists work with children using evidence-based strategies tailored to their individual sensory profiles. Examples of interventions include sensory diet activities—such as using weighted blankets or compression vests to provide calming input—and structured movement breaks involving swings or trampolines to help regulate arousal levels. Fine-motor activities like threading, playdough manipulation, and handwriting practice are also incorporated to address coordination challenges that may co-occur with sensory processing differences. The clinic recognises that every child's sensory needs are unique, and therapy is individualised accordingly. If your child has an NDIS plan, Flourish OT can discuss how occupational therapy services may be funded under the 2025-26 scheme, though registration status should be confirmed directly with the clinic. It's important to note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose autism or sensory processing disorder—diagnosis comes from medical professionals—but they can meaningfully support children's participation and independence across home, school, and community settings.
