Services Flourish OT offers for early intervention

Early childhood development relies on a child's ability to process and respond to sensory information from their environment. At Flourish OT, our occupational therapists support children whose sensory processing may be affecting their development through tailored interventions. Sensory processing work helps children regulate their responses to touch, movement, sound and visual input—skills essential for learning, play and daily routines. For example, we use sensory swings and weighted equipment to help children develop body awareness and calm their nervous system, whilst fine-motor activities like threading beads or playdough manipulation build the hand strength needed for writing readiness. Visual supports and structured play routines also help children understand and navigate their world more confidently. Flourish OT works with families to embed these strategies into everyday activities at home and in the community. If your child may be eligible for NDIS funding in the 2025-26 financial year, our team can discuss how occupational therapy services might be supported. Please note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose conditions such as autism or sensory processing disorder; however, we can identify developmental areas where support may help and work collaboratively with your child's medical team.

About early intervention

Early childhood is a time of rapid development across play, movement, communication, self-care, and social skills. When concerns about a child's early development arise, paediatric occupational therapy is one of the allied health supports often involved.

Common questions

How do I know if my child needs sensory processing support?

Children with sensory processing differences may avoid certain textures or sounds, seek intense movement or touch, struggle with transitions, or have difficulty with self-care routines like dressing or eating. If you've noticed these patterns affecting your child's play, learning or daily life, an initial consultation with Flourish OT can help identify whether occupational therapy support might be beneficial.

Can occupational therapy diagnose autism or sensory processing disorder?

No, occupational therapists cannot diagnose autism, ADHD or sensory processing disorder. However, we can assess how your child's sensory responses and motor skills are affecting their development and daily functioning. We work alongside your child's doctor or paediatrician to provide a complete picture of their needs.

Does Flourish OT accept NDIS funding?

NDIS registration status for Flourish OT has not been confirmed. We recommend contacting the clinic directly to discuss funding options and payment arrangements. If your child has an NDIS plan, our team can advise whether services may be eligible under your plan's supports for 2025-26.
