Early intervention Support at Kids First — Across NSW

Early childhood development relies on a child's ability to process sensory information effectively, and Kids First recognises that sensory processing difficulties can impact how young children learn, play, and interact with their environment. Through targeted sensory processing support, Kids First helps children develop better awareness of their body in space, improve their ability to filter distracting sensations, and build confidence in everyday activities. Specific interventions at Kids First might include structured play with sensory equipment such as tunnels and balance beams to develop body awareness, fine-motor activities like threading beads or playdough manipulation to strengthen hand control, and calming strategies using weighted items or deep-pressure activities to help children self-regulate during transitions. These approaches support children's readiness for learning and social participation. While Kids First offers these services, it's important to note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose conditions such as autism, ADHD, or sensory processing disorder—diagnosis requires a medical professional. Families may be eligible for NDIS funding (2025–26) to support these interventions, depending on their child's needs and circumstances.
