Koala Occupational Therapy Pty Ltd recognises that children with sensory processing disorder often struggle to interpret and respond to sensory information from their environment, affecting daily activities like eating, dressing, and learning. Our sensory processing service helps children develop better tolerance and regulation through tailored interventions. We use evidence-based strategies such as sensory diet activities—structured movement and tactile experiences throughout the day—to help children self-regulate. For example, a child who is sensory-seeking might benefit from deep pressure work using weighted blankets or resistance exercises, whilst a sensory-avoiding child may gradually build tolerance through controlled exposure to textures during fine-motor activities like playdough manipulation or craft work. Koala Occupational Therapy Pty Ltd also incorporates environmental modifications and coping strategies that families can use at home and school. Many families access our services through NDIS funding, with support available under the 2025–26 pricing arrangements for eligible participants. We work collaboratively with parents, schools, and other professionals to ensure consistent approaches. It's important to note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose sensory processing disorder; however, we can assess functional difficulties and support children in managing sensory challenges as part of their everyday routines.
