ADHD Support at Smiling Star Occupational Therapy — Across NSW

Children with ADHD and attention difficulties often experience challenges with sensory processing, which can affect their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and participate in daily activities. Smiling Star Occupational Therapy addresses these overlapping needs through tailored sensory processing support. Sensory activities help children develop better body awareness and self-regulation skills, which can improve attention and reduce fidgeting during learning tasks. For example, our therapists might use weighted blankets or compression vests to provide calming input, helping children settle and concentrate more effectively. We also incorporate movement-based activities such as trampoline work or obstacle courses that challenge balance and coordination whilst building confidence. Fine-motor activities like threading beads or using adaptive scissors are woven into sessions to strengthen focus and hand control simultaneously. At Smiling Star Occupational Therapy, we work collaboratively with families to identify sensory strategies that work best for each child's unique needs. While occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD or sensory processing difficulties, we can assess how sensory factors may be impacting your child's attention and daily functioning. Families accessing NDIS funding (2025-26) may be able to direct support towards occupational therapy services to address these areas.
