Autism Support at Thrive OT — Across NSW
Thrive OT in Across NSW lists services that overlap with paediatric occupational therapy for autism.
Services Thrive OT offers for autism
Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience differences in how they process sensory information and develop fine motor skills. Thrive OT supports these areas through tailored occupational therapy. Sensory processing work helps children regulate their responses to sights, sounds, textures, and movement—for example, using weighted blankets or resistance activities to promote calm, or practising balance on therapy equipment to build body awareness. Fine motor interventions develop hand strength and coordination needed for writing, fastening buttons, and self-care tasks, such as threading activities, scissor practice, and pencil grip training. At Thrive OT, therapists work collaboratively with families to identify which sensory and motor strategies help each child engage better at home, school, and in the community. Many families access occupational therapy through NDIS funding (2025–26 pricing applies where eligible). It's important to note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose autism; however, they can address the sensory and motor support needs that often accompany autism diagnosis.

About autism
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental difference that shapes how children process information, communicate, and respond to their sensory environment. In Australia, autism is identified across a wide range of ages, and many families first speak with a GP or paediatrician about referrals for assessment after noticing differences in play, communication, sensory responses, or daily routines.

Common questions
Can occupational therapy help my child with autism?
Occupational therapists like those at Thrive OT can support children with autism by addressing sensory processing differences and fine motor challenges. They cannot diagnose autism, but they work with the strengths and needs your child already has. Therapy focuses on practical skills and strategies to help your child participate more comfortably in daily activities.
Does Thrive OT accept NDIS funding?
NDIS registration status for Thrive OT has not been confirmed. We recommend contacting the clinic directly to discuss funding options and payment arrangements. Many families use NDIS plans (2025–26 pricing) to access occupational therapy, and Thrive OT can advise on how to proceed.
What happens in a sensory processing session?
Sessions are tailored to your child's needs. Examples might include using swings or balance equipment, working with textured materials, or practising calming strategies. Thrive OT therapists observe how your child responds and adjust activities to help them feel more regulated and confident in their body and environment.
