ADHD Support at Thrive OT — Across NSW
Thrive OT in Across NSW lists services that overlap with paediatric occupational therapy for adhd.
Services Thrive OT offers for adhd
Children with ADHD often experience challenges with sensory processing and fine motor control, which can impact their ability to focus, organise tasks, and engage in daily activities. At Thrive OT, our occupational therapists work with these underlying difficulties to support attention and self-regulation. Sensory processing work might include activities like using a sensory swing or weighted lap pad to help calm the nervous system, or obstacle course activities that build body awareness—both of which can improve a child's capacity to settle and concentrate. Fine motor interventions, such as threading activities, scissor work, or handwriting exercises, help strengthen the hand control needed for school tasks and reduce the frustration that can accompany fine motor struggles. Thrive OT also incorporates visual schedules and structured routines to support organisation and task initiation. Many families access these services through NDIS funding (2025-26 rates apply), though we recommend checking your child's plan to confirm coverage. An occupational therapist cannot diagnose ADHD, but can identify sensory and motor patterns that may be contributing to attention difficulties and work collaboratively with your child's other healthcare providers.

About adhd
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a developmental difference that affects attention, activity level, and impulse control. In Australia, ADHD is diagnosed by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or psychologist, often after a family or school notices ongoing differences in attention, behaviour, or self-regulation across multiple settings.

Common questions
Can occupational therapy help my child's ADHD?
Occupational therapy doesn't treat ADHD itself, but can address sensory and fine motor challenges that often co-occur and may affect focus and self-regulation. At Thrive OT, we work on skills like body awareness, hand strength, and organisation to support your child's everyday functioning and learning. We recommend discussing your child's needs with your GP or paediatrician alongside OT support.
How does Thrive OT tailor sessions for children with attention difficulties?
We use structured, activity-based sessions that keep children engaged through play and meaningful tasks. Our therapists incorporate movement breaks, sensory tools, and visual supports to help maintain focus. Sessions are individualised based on your child's interests and specific challenges, making learning feel less like 'therapy' and more like fun problem-solving.
Does NDIS cover occupational therapy for ADHD at Thrive OT?
Many NDIS plans include funding for occupational therapy when sensory processing or fine motor difficulties are identified. We recommend reviewing your child's NDIS plan or contacting your Local Area Coordinator to confirm what's covered. We're happy to discuss funding options when you contact us.
