Autism Support at Little Stepping Stones — Across VIC

Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience differences in how they process sensory information, which can affect their ability to engage with everyday activities, learn, and interact with others. Little Stepping Stones offers sensory processing support tailored to each child's unique needs. Our occupational therapists work with children to help them develop better awareness of and responses to sensory input through carefully graded activities. For example, we might use a sensory swing to help a child regulate their vestibular system, or introduce weighted equipment like lap pads or compression vests to provide calming input during transitions. Fine-motor activities—such as threading, playdough manipulation, or scissor work—are often woven into sessions to build confidence and independence in self-care and learning tasks. Little Stepping Stones can support families accessing NDIS funding (2025–26) for occupational therapy, though registration status should be confirmed directly with the clinic. Our approach focuses on understanding each child's sensory profile and building practical strategies that work in home, school, and community settings. An occupational therapist cannot diagnose autism or sensory processing disorder, but can identify how sensory differences may be affecting your child's participation and wellbeing.
