Autism Support at The OT Group — Bendigo, VIC

Children with autism spectrum disorder often experience differences in how they process sensory information, which can affect their daily activities, learning, and social participation. The OT Group supports these children through sensory processing services that help them understand and respond to sensory input more effectively. Our occupational therapists work with each child to identify their sensory preferences and challenges, then design tailored activities to build confidence and skills. For example, we might use a sensory swing to help children develop body awareness and vestibular processing, or incorporate weighted equipment during fine-motor activities to improve focus and hand stability. Visual schedules and structured routines are also integrated into sessions to support transitions and predictability. The OT Group recognises that many families access support through NDIS funding (2025-26), and we work collaboratively to ensure therapy aligns with individual goals and plans. Our approach is person-centred, recognising that every child's sensory profile is unique. While occupational therapy cannot diagnose autism spectrum disorder, it can significantly enhance a child's ability to engage with their environment and participate in everyday routines.
