ADHD Support at TOTS — Across QLD

Children with ADHD often experience difficulties with sensory processing, which can affect their ability to focus, regulate emotions, and participate in daily activities. TOTS recognises that sensory challenges frequently co-occur with attention difficulties, and our occupational therapists work to address these underlying factors. Through sensory processing support, we help children develop better body awareness and self-regulation skills. For example, TOTS uses sensory equipment such as weighted blankets and body socks to provide calming input, helping children settle before learning tasks. We also incorporate movement-based activities like obstacle courses and balance work to improve proprioceptive feedback—the sense of where your body is in space. Fine-motor activities, including threading, cutting, and handwriting practice, can also support sustained attention and confidence. At TOTS, our therapists tailor sensory strategies to each child's unique profile. Many families access our services through NDIS funding (2025-26 rates), which can cover occupational therapy support for eligible children. We recommend discussing your child's needs with your GP or paediatrician, who can provide referrals and help determine funding eligibility. While occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD, we can identify sensory processing patterns and develop practical strategies to support your child's engagement and wellbeing.
