Services KidsPoint offers for adhd

Children with ADHD often experience difficulties with attention, impulse control, and sensory regulation. KidsPoint recognises that sensory processing challenges frequently co-occur with attention difficulties, and our occupational therapists work to support children by improving their ability to process and respond to sensory information effectively. Through sensory processing services, we help children develop better self-regulation strategies, which can positively influence their capacity to focus and engage in learning and play. At KidsPoint, we use evidence-based interventions tailored to each child's needs. Examples include: using weighted equipment or compression tools to provide calming input before learning tasks; designing movement-based activities such as controlled swinging or jumping to help children discharge excess energy and reset their attention; and creating structured sensory breaks within routines to support sustained concentration. We also work with families to understand how their child's sensory preferences affect behaviour and attention at home and school. Many families access these services through NDIS funding (2025–26 rates), though we encourage you to discuss your individual circumstances with us. Please note that occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD or sensory processing disorder; however, we can support children identified with these conditions and work collaboratively with other professionals involved in your child's care.

About adhd

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a developmental difference that affects attention, activity level, and impulse control. In Australia, ADHD is diagnosed by a paediatrician, psychiatrist, or psychologist, often after a family or school notices ongoing differences in attention, behaviour, or self-regulation across multiple settings.

Common questions

Can an occupational therapist diagnose ADHD or attention difficulties?

No, occupational therapists cannot diagnose ADHD or attention difficulties—these diagnoses are made by medical professionals such as paediatricians or psychologists. However, our team at KidsPoint can assess how sensory processing and motor skills affect your child's ability to concentrate and participate in daily activities, and we provide targeted support to help with regulation and focus.

How does sensory processing work relate to my child's attention problems?

Children who struggle to filter or process sensory information may find it harder to concentrate because their brain is overwhelmed by background noise, movement, or other stimuli. By helping your child develop better sensory regulation through activities and strategies, KidsPoint supports their ability to settle, focus, and engage more effectively in school and home environments.

Does KidsPoint accept NDIS funding?

We work with families to support access to services. Regarding NDIS registration and funding arrangements for 2025–26, we recommend contacting KidsPoint directly to discuss your specific situation and what options may be available to you. Our team can provide information about how we work with different funding sources.
